GLAMOUR WEBSITE ANALYSIS

Image
This magazine opens slightly different to the other sites; in newspaper terms it feels more like a broadsheet to a tabloid with more text and smaller images. There are also more links to connect to different areas of the magazine which feels a little more intimidating, again, may be another reason why this is targeted towards a more reading orientated audience. There is a link that takes you to a page for empowerment which demonstrates the cultural industries desire to reach an audience and express their ethos and political standings. This shows that glamour is quite liberal and modern possibly attracting a younger audience and also a female audience. This is important in the world of fashion as inclusivity and expression is key.

VOGUE WEBSITE ANALYSIS

Image
This website has a modern contemporary feel using minimal colours for the links and assets and a authentic serif font. I like how the headline/ cover lines follow the same type face as the logo which wraps the page up nicely. The use of a large image as you open the page is visually pleasing and already follows the fashion orientated purpose of the magazine. I also noticed, as it stood out due to the black backing and white text a subscribe button. This is highlighted in hopes of potential members to easily access a paid subscription, this paywall is a good way to create another revenue stream. The links cover a variety of areas in fashion and lifestyle- This link covers fashion and includes images that follow articles related. The first image with the t-shirt reading ‘protect the dolls’ demonstrates vogues political standing and demonstrates the cultural industries ethos and belief of gender and identity. There are also secondary links to other more specific areas of fashi...

GQ WEBSITE ANALYSIS

Image
This website for men’s magazine GQ displays an array of choices and links to relating topics, fashion and lifestyle inspiration and news. These links lead to other areas on the sites and have sub links to news stories and articles relating to the title of the section. The first image upon opening the site is a picture of a female model laying in bed. This could possibly demonstrate the use of gender to intrigue and immerse a typical male audience. The colour scheme used is quite simple using only black for the text and the logo. This stays this way until you click a link and it changes a sort of gold colour. This first link leads to a fashion section that has subcategories for style advice and more specific areas of fashion like trainers. This also includes on the all-topic section images of male icons like Brad Pitt, this creates ideas of fandom and how a particular audience could be attracted to reading the article due to his position is society.

VOGUE ANALYSIS 2

Image
This magazine cover is for popular fashion and lifestyle magazine vogue. Vogues covers are often quite bright and eccentric and this follows on this cover also. Unlike Vogue men’s that I previously analysed the general vogue is more liberal and free with the content used. In this case harry styles is modelling wearing clothes that are more typically seen worn by woman. This liberal approach to clothing and gender performativity contrasts ideas of more traditional men’s magazine covers that display men wearing suits and more basic clothing. The image of harry styles is composed centrally bringing the viewers’ attention straight to the centre of the page. Due to this placement of attention the headings and subheadings have been placed aligned with this. From the top of the cover where Harry’s face covers some of the recognisable logo we see his outfit that is a key part of this cover and then our eyes naturally move towards the bottom where the majority of the text content is place...

VOGUE ANALYSIS

Image
This magazine is for men’s vogue which purely covers modern fashion. This cover opposes some of the general codes and conventions that are followed by other magazines and has taken a very minimalist approach through the use of assets. All the headings are in white including the magazines logo. This creates a nice flow in the cover and still displays information. The only issue with the same colour text this may take away from the importance of certain stories/ information however to contradict this the headings are of different sizes with smaller copy that follows. This is a good representation how minimalist style can be carried out whilst still marketing and advertising the relevant and important information. The photo of the model is centrally composed however due to his stance ius slightly diagonal which I think draws the viewers attention down the page to the rest of the information enhancing visibility. The model on the cover is wearing a suit and has his shirt slightly unb...

GQ ANALYSIS

Image
This magazine cover is for a men’s fashion and lifestyle magazine that displays up and coming trends, artists and pop culture icons. This cover has a large image of popular singer drake. He’s dressed in a casual suit wearing a blingy gold watch and sunglasses. This use of mise-en-scene sets the mood for a classy and enjoyable read for the average middle-aged male audience. This audience is captured using celebrities and usually covers a slightly older character, so the use of a younger more modern person is quite nice and captures a younger audience. This is important for cultural industries to access a revenue stream from other audiences. The assets on the magazine have a limited palette of light blue, white, grey and dark blue. The sue of only 4 colours keeps it simple and is a nice way to divide information often in order of Importance or relevance. For example, the main headline of the cover ‘The best dressed men in the world’ is in a large type face and is bold. It is also...
